On Demand movie highlights

FAHRENHEIT 9/11

(Showtime on Comcast) Michael Moore’s overstuffed blunt object of a movie is a must-see experience for the way it synthesizes the anti-Bush argument like no other work before it. The filmmaker trowels on the damning facts, stages some hilarious political vaudeville, and, toward the end, indulges his shameless streak. The film should come with a label: Chew before swallowing. (R; runs through May 7)

THE MECHANIC

(Showtime on Comcast) Jason Statham, Ben Foster, and director Simon West (‘‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’’) remake Charles Bronson’s grubby 1972 urban thriller about a meticulous hit man teaching his craft to a new apprentice. An intermittently arresting, mostly standard action entry that deals death noisily more than cleverly — a lot like the original. (R; runs through May 7)

FRIGHT NIGHT

(Showtime on Comcast) A smart comedy of horrors that revamps the Dracula legend for the teen market. (R; runs through May 7)
