(HBO on Comcast) An unnecessary, drug-addled, and very funny sequel, featuring an older but not terribly wiser Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) as they grapple with Ukrainian gangsters and love-struck wafflebots, briefly become Claymation versions of themselves, and negotiate adulthood. Not to worry: There’s still enough idiot humor here to appall your parents.
(R; runs through July 1)
(HBO on Comcast) A 3-D vision of Antarctic excess, with digitally animated penguins thundering in choreographic lockstep to an unholy fusion of Janet Jackson, Queen, and ‘‘Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow.’’ Exuberantly weird and desperately plot-heavy, it’ll be a hit with kids and a curio to their parents. With the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Hank Azaria. (PG; runs through July 1)
(Comcast Movie Collections: Just In) The Barrett family, headed by Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton, experiences unexplainable, alien stuff of the “Close Encounters” kind. Scott Stewart’s smart, suspenseful psychological thriller goes beyond “Paranormal Activity” to explore how the recession has corroded the American family’s psychic foundation. Especially when some otherworldly force invades your domicile to bruise and brand your kids. Does the family unit bicker or does it believe, and fight together?
