On Demand movie highlights

(Comcast Free Movies) A heart-ripping audience pleaser about a 9-year-old Mexican boy (Adrian Alonso) crossing the border to find his illegal immigrant mother (Kate del Castillo) in LA, Patricia Riggen’s movie courts shameless sentimentality, but her cast plays with dry eyes until the very end, when it knows we’re about to cave in too. The result is a genuinely cathartic night at the movies. In English and Spanish, with subtitles. (PG-13; runs through July 2)

Ty Burr

(Comcast Free Movies) Kevin Spacey and Danny DeVito as industrial-lubricant salesmen at a convention in Wichita, trying to conceal their anxiety and despair. Spacey is his usual stylishly sardonic self, and DeVito is soulful. But the piece’s talkiness betrays its stage origins, and its fortune-cookie philosophizing increasingly tests the ingenuity of both stars. (R; runs through
July 2)

(Comcast Free Movies) David Lynch’s Southern Gothic lovers-on-the-lam caper is full of visual style, but its arresting imagery is mostly insubstantial; it doesn’t come from as deep a place as “Blue Velvet” or “Twin Peaks.” (R; runs through July 9)
