On Demand movie highlights

(Comcast Movie Collections: Just In) This 3-D animated feature casts Rob Corddry as extraterrestrial tech nerd Gary Supernova, a safety-minded worrier who mans the mission control board for the spacefaring exploits of his hotshot brother, Buzz Light- um, Scorch (Brendan Fraser). When Scorch is captured on our world, Gary has to head out into the field to save him. Colorful as the aliens-among-us comedy is to look at, Corddry is handed a role that’s beige as can be. (PG; runs through Dec. 14)

(Comcast Free Movies) This black comedy about burglar-alarm peddlers who trigger the devices they sell to boost sales becomes too disjointed as it expands into a take on the lethal arbitrariness of the universe. Pluses: David Arquette’s revved-up nerdy salesman, Kate Capshaw’s single mom who becomes his lover, Ryan Reynolds as her hulking teenage son, who dishes out the most surprises. (R; runs through Aug. 15)

(Comcast Free Movies) Slight but likable story about a girl, appealingly played by Anna Chlumsky, coming to terms with the death of someone close to her. Macaulay Culkin, in a secondary role as the girl’s awkward pal, is winning, as are Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd, as supportive adults. (PG; runs through Aug. 15)
