Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Thursday night

Syfy

Sharknado 9 p.m., Syfy

Is this some kind of shipper name because there are people out there rooting for a hookup between a shark and a tornado? No, my expectations are too low. As the Syfy logo says, “Imagine Greater.” This is a classic about how a tornado draws hundreds of man-eating sharks out of the water and hurls them at the people of Los Angeles. A statement about the movie industry? Ian Ziering and Tara Reid star, of course.

Summer Camp 8 p.m., USA

A TV law of motion: To every scripted action (NBC’s “Camp”), there is an equal and opposite reality reaction. This new show has adults going to camp in California and playing old-fashioned summer camp games (Color War!) for $250,000. Don’t expect freshness; in advance press material, the show is typing the players with labels such as “The Geek,” “The Model,” “The Pageant Queen,” and “The Cowboy.” Matt Rogers, from a long-ago season of “American Idol,” is the host.
