For a Good Time, Call. . .

(HBO on Comcast) Two women in their late 20s, played by Ari Graynor and Lauren Miller, start a phone sex company. It’s like one of those bromances. This version is simultaneously as emotionally sincere and more archly self-conscious. It achieves both parity and parody. It’s a bra-mance. (R; runs through Sept. 9)

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy½

(HBO on Comcast) Sloppy and crass, “Anchorman” still delivers stupid giggles. It’s a “Saturday Night Live” movie in spirit: Will Ferrell plays a blowhard fool of a newsman during the high-polyester ’70s whose chauvinism takes a knock with the appearance of a comely rival (Christina Applegate). The real laughs come from supporting players Fred Willard and Steve Carell. (PG-13; runs through Sept. 16)

(Showtime on Comcast) A huge, angry howl of a movie about paralyzed Vietnam vet Ron Kovic, whose patriotism moves through hellish pain and disillusion to antiwar activism. Tom Cruise’s go-for-broke intensity as Kovic rides a hot, manic flood of scalding purification. (R; runs through Sept. 15)
