Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Thursday

    Derek Netflix

Ricky Gervais’s sentimental seven-episode mockumentary series, which already aired in the UK, goes up on Netflix on Thursday. So binge away. Gervais plays a kind, simple, and possibly autistic man who works in a retirement home. “They ain’t got long,” Derek says about his charges, “so every minute is important. I just want them to be happy all the time.” Karl Pilkington, the guy Gervais laughs at on his podcasts and on his HBO series, is onboard as Derek’s handyman roommate. Burn Notice 9 p.m., USA

Sometimes it seems as though “Burn Notice” has been on forever. But after seven seasons, the adventures of superspy Michael Westen, played by Jeffrey Donovan (above), and his cohorts played by Gabrielle Anwar and Bruce Campbell comes to an end. Anwar and Sharon Gless as Michael’s mother have been endlessly entertaining over the years. Creator Matt Nix is saying that one of the major
characters will die in the finale.
