Critic’s Corner: What’s on TV this weekend

    Jan Thijs

House of Versace  Saturday at 8 p.m., Lifetime

Thank you, Lifetime, forever thank you. I love this lippy photo of Gina Gershon as Donatella Versace, almost as much as I love remembering Maya Rudolph playing the same part. Gershon dons the blond viper wig to play the woman who took over her brother Gianni’s fashion empire after his 1997 murder. It’s a Lifetime biopic, so don’t expect big things, beyond this absolutely massive photo.

Saturday Night Live  Saturday at 11:30 p.m., NBC

I found last week’s season premiere decent enough, by “Saturday Night Live” standards. Rather than ignoring the fact that the cast is in transition, Lorne Michaels and his writers wisely included a few meta bits calling attention to the new players. This week, Miley Cyrus will be the host and the musical guest. She has been passionately attacked and passionately defended; sounds like a true pop star to me.
