Filmmaker Michael Apted (“The World Is Not Enough,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter”) began following a group of British kids when they were 7 years old, and has checked in with them every 7 years. The engrossing documentary series continues with its next interval and, as always, the updates range from mundane to funny to poignant. One of the film’s subjects, affable London cabbie Tony Walker, told reporters at this summer’s Television Critics Association press tour that it’s easy to see the child in the man. “You can see the exuberance that’s pouring out of me at 7, and if you come and see me and my characteristics now, they are no different. If you got a ruler and measured it, it would be exactly to the rule.”
