Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Thursday

Adam Taylor/NBC

Welcome to the Family 8:30 p.m., NBC

This show, about two sets of parents uneasily connecting over the unplanned pregnancy of their recent high school grads, isn’t reinventing the sitcom by any means. But it does have a great troupe at its core who can elevate the material and could really hit good stuff out of the park. Hopefully, it will get a little more time to grow. Mike O’Malley and Mary McCormack (pictured) are already displaying an easy chemistry, and O’Malley and Ricardo Chavira are a great prickly pair. Chavira’s former “Desperate Housewives” wife Eva Longoria shows up in this episode to stir things up. (Viva Gaby and Carlos!)

MythBusters 10 p.m., Discovery

Given the blockbuster ratings for the season four premiere of “The Walking Dead,” Discovery has to be hoping some of that undead magic will rub off on this edition of the show, which examines the “myths”(?) a bout zombies with the help of former “TWD” star Michael Rooker, who teaches a group of zombie extras how to do the horror shuffle.
