Critic’s Corner: What’s on TV this weekend

Fox Broacasting Co. via ap

The Simpsons Sunday, 8 p.m., Fox

Let us take a moment for the late, great Marcia Wallace who voiced Bart’s teacher Edna Krabappel. Wallace, who passed away last week, made a great career from small-but-memorable roles, including Bob Newhart’s receptionist on the “The Bob Newhart Show.” The timing is a bit odd, since this is the week in which the series had announced its intention to lay one of the citizens of Springfield to rest. While the producers will be retiring Mrs. Krabappel out of deference to Wallace, it is another character who will meet their demise. As a tribute — in the place of the scheduled “American Dad” rerun — Fox will air a great Krabappel-centric episode right before the new installment.

Saturday Night Live Saturday, 11:30 p.m., NBC

Given the recent kerfuffle over the lack of black female cast members on “SNL,” host Kerry Washington of ABC’s “Scandal” arrives at an interesting time. Impressions we’re predicting will be on the docket: Beyoncé and Michelle Obama. Eminem goes “Berzerk” as the musical guest.
