Jimi Hendrix — Hear My Train a Comin’ 9 p.m., Channel 2

This profile, the latest installment of “American Masters,” takes on the life of the musician who died in 1970 at 27. Along with footage from the 1968 Miami Pop Festival and home movies, the documentary will include interviews with Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Dweezil Zappa, and friends and lovers including his pre-fame paramour Faye Pridgeon.

New Girl 9 p.m., Fox

Damon Wayans Jr. was in the pilot for this show, but then “Happy Endings” got picked up and the producers had his character, Coach, move out of the loft. Now that “Happy Endings” is gone, and Schmidt has moved across the hall, Wayans is back. His former “Happy Endings” costar Adam Pally is also on Fox, by the way, on “The Mindy Project” at 9:30.
