Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Thursday

CNN Films: Sole Survivor 9 p.m., CNN

According to CNN there have been only 14 major commercial airplane crashes with a sole survivor in the history of commercial aviation. This documentary chronicles a few of their stories. All of them are coping with considerable survivor guilt. A few lost some or all of their immediate family members. The film also introduces them to one another, in most cases for the first time, to discuss the miraculous and heartbreaking things they have in common. Judging by the brief trailer, viewers will definitely want to keep tissues on hand, and nervous flyers might want to take a pass.

Parenthood 10 p.m., NBC

Speaking of needing to have tissues on hand, a fresh supply of Kleenex is always advised for this engrossing drama about the Braverman clan. Hopefully, this installment will also offer a few laughs as well, as Sarah (Lauren Graham) and Hank (Ray Romano, adorable in irascible mode) compete for a job.
