Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Wednesday

    TV Land

Jennifer Falls 10:30 p.m., TV Land

Jaime Pressly from “My Name Is Earl” stars as Jennifer in this new sitcom — TV Land’s first single-camera comedy — about a single mother who moves in with her difficult mother after she loses her job. The premise sounds too familiar, but the presence of Jessica Walter as the mother and fellow “Earl” grad Ethan Suplee as the brother might help. Walter seems to have cornered the market on twisted maternal situations. Pictured: Pressly (right) with Missi Pyle.

No, this isn’t a very good movie, even though Mike Nichols directed it. Harrison Ford plays a cutthroat lawyer in New York who gets shot in a convenience store robbery. His rehabilitation is long and hard, and in the process he becomes a nicer guy — with plenty of schmaltz and righteousness along the way. So why am I mentioning it here? This was the second movie written by J.J. Abrams, then going by Jeffrey Abrams, who was 24 when it was released in 1991. How the mighty have risen.
