LOS ANGELES — The defense lawyer for a man charged with stalking Kendall Jenner has urged a jury to acquit the Florida native because he never intended to scare the model and reality television star.

Attorney Taylor Shramo told the panel on Monday that his client repeatedly tried to meet Jenner for the sole purpose of talking to her.

Shramo acknowledged that Jenner was terrified of Shavaughn McKenzie when he followed her car into the driveway of her Hollywood Hills home in August and repeatedly tried to speak to her.

A prosecutor has said McKenzie stalked Jenner for 15 months before his arrest in August.

Shramo argued Monday that a prosecutor had not proven McKenzie maliciously followed the ‘‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’’ star, and also should not be convicted of trespassing.
