It’s a very Putin-Trump Christmas in ‘SNL’ cold open

Beck Bennett’s Vladimir Putin had effusive praise for President-elect Donald Trump during last night’s “Saturday Night Live” cold open.

After entering the scene by coming down a chimney, a shirtless Bennett told Alec Baldwin’s Trump, “We think you are the best candidate, the smartest candidate, the Manchurian candidate.”

“I don’t know what that means but it sounds tremendous,” replied Baldwin.

The skit lampooned the recent news that American authorities believe Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump win the presidency.

In the skit, faux-Putin gave faux-Trump an elf-on-the-shelf and asked the president-elect if he trusts him more than the CIA.

“All I know is I won,” said Baldwin.

The scene also took aim at Rex Tillerson, Trump’s pick for secretary of state, who has a close ties with Russia. Tillerson, played by John Goodman, referred to Putin as “Pooty” before executing an elaborate, frat-boy-like greeting. The two then discussed potential oil deals.

Baldwin’s Trump just wanted to know when they would destory Vanity Fair.

There was also a Rick Perry “Dancing with the Stars” reference, a joke about Trump making up a word (unpresidented), and a Kanye West shout-out.

“He’s using my colorist now,” Baldwin said. “He just says whatever he feels. He’s like me, but a black.”
