New York Times to air ‘The truth is. . .’ ad during Oscars

The New York Times will return to the airwaves for the first time since 2010 with a new ad set to be run during the Academy Awards — and already has been criticized by President Donald Trump.

The company’s new “The truth is. . .” campaign is intended to show the work and resources that go into journalism, the publication said in a statement.

The New York Times said it conducted research that found “that some people do not realize all that goes into having reporters out in the field, in hard-to-reach places, covering complex topics,” the newspaper said.

The company said the ad is its first one for television since 2010.

The ad — which has already been released on YouTube — doesn’t mention Trump by name, but it spurred the 45th president to slam it early this morning on Twitter as “bad” and an attempt by the company to “help save its failing reputation.”
