The timing is perfect. Executive producer George Clooney and “Bridge of Spies” writer Matt Charman are putting together an eight-episode limited series called “Watergate.”

The drama will be about the major characters who were involved in the 1970s political scandal and coverup, which changed the country and the media. Hard to believe there were actually thugs in the White House, right? Key to the miniseries, of course, will be the actor Clooney and Co. choose to play Richard Nixon. No word yet on whether Clooney will be acting in the project.

No outlet has been announced yet, but both Deadline and Variety are saying “Watergate” will go to Netflix.

By the way, Clooney is working on another limited TV series based on Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22.” That project will be six episodes, the script is co-written by Luke Davies (“Lion”) and David Michod (“War Machine”), and Clooney will star as Colonel Cathcart. The actor, who got his start on TV, most notably “ER,” will also direct.
