Colbert weighs in on Globe-led #FreePress editorials

Late night host Stephen Colbert weighed in on a Boston Globe-coordinated effort by newspapers across the country to publish editorials in support of a free press — and he had a chance to try out his Boston accent, too.

During last night’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Colbert ran clips of President Trump blasting the nation’s press as “fake news” and “very dishonest people” before pointing out the source of the footage.

“Good thing the enemy of the people was there to accurately record it,” Colbert said.

Colbert then gave his own spin on the Globe’s editorial defending the freedom of the press.

“This initiative was spearheaded by the Boston Globe, which led the charge with their editorial, ‘The Free Press is wicked smaht, Donald Trump has gone too fahhhhhhh!,’” Colbert said in his monologue.

(In reality, the editorial is “Journalists are not the enemy” and it’s linked to a list of other newspaper editorials from across the country.)
