John Oliver breaks down the trade war

John Oliver challenged President Trump’s knowledge of international trade in the latest episode of “Last Week Tonight.”

In particular, Oliver pointed at Trump’s statements that tariffs would be good for US consumers and businesses.

Oliver said data show hundreds of thousands of jobs could be lost if the recent trade war with China were to continue.

He pointed to an aluminum plant in Missouri that was retaining business because of tariffs on aluminum and steel products from China.

Then he pointed to a nearby nail factory that cut about 100 jobs because higher tariffs on steel were straining its finances.

“When it comes to trade, nothing happens in isolation,” he said.

He also criticized Trump’s trade adviser, Peter Navarro, a Tufts and Harvard graduate.
