    P. Carl has stepped down as co-artistic director of ArtsEmerson and director of the theater industry platform HowlRound, both based at Emerson College. Recently awarded a $50,000 “Art of Change’’ fellowship from the Ford Foundation, Carl is moving on to focus on creative projects that will include working as dramaturg on Claudia Rankine’s “The White Card.’’ David Dower, who is now the sole artistic director at ArtsEmerson, said that Carl has “a lot of personal artistic projects, and he wanted to be able to pursue those fully. He wanted to be able to fly, and we wanted to support that.’’

Carl will return to the Emerson faculty in the fall of 2018 as distinguished faculty and as a faculty associate in diversity and inclusion, according to a letter sent to the Emerson community Monday afternoon by college president Lee Pelton, Dower, and David Howse, executive director of ArtsEmerson.
