Newport Harbor Corp. said Monday that it has finalized a deal to buy eight of the 12 Papa Razzi restaurants in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The Newport, R.I.-based hospitality company bought the Italian restaurants from Boston restaurateur Charlie Sarkis, who founded Back Bay Restaurant Group and until last year owned and operated Abe & Louie’s, Atlantic Fish Co., Charley’s, Coach Grill, and Joe’s American Bar & Grill. Newport Harbor did not say how much it is paying for the restaurants.
“Papa Razzi is a dynamic addition to our hospitality portfolio,’’ said Ken Cusson, director of business development at Newport Harbor. “We are excited to expand into the Boston market, bringing more than 30 years of expertise in hospitality to an already strong brand.’’
Cusson will lead the Papa Razzi restaurants with support from the company’s chief operating officer, Casey Riley.
“I am excited to return to my roots in Boston and to bring our philosophy to the Papa Razzi concept,’’ said Riley, who began his culinary career at Boston’s famed L’Espalier restaurant.
