Bee’s Knees plans Fort Point gourmet grocery that looks to feature cheese, wine, cured meats - and an on-site chocolatier

Bee’s Knees Supply Co. is planning to open a gourmet grocery this fall in the Fort Point neighborhood.

Jason Owens, the owner of the 5,500 square foot shop at 12 Farnsworth St., claims the store will offer the largest cheese selection in downtown Boston, an on-site chocolatier, along with wine, beer, and a wide selection local produce.

Bee’s Knees also plans to have a full-time chef creating daily entrees and managing in-house pickling and curing efforts for meats, said Owens, who founded specialty market American Provisions in South Boston.

The new shop will feature an open kitchen and offer cooking lessons, chef demos, wine dinners, and tastings.

Blue Tierra Chocolates owner Jennifer Turner, currently in South Boston, is merging her business with Bee’s Knees, where she will become the on-site chocolatier.

The new market also plans to sell scoop Batch Ice Cream from Jamaica Plain.

Owens, a longtime South Boston resident and creator of M3, a new Davis Square restaurant, said he sees a gap in the local grocery offerings and hopes to bring new options to the residents of Fort Point.
