Eagle-Tribune and sister papers cut 21 jobs

Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. is cutting 21 jobs, or about 5 percent of its workforce, at the Eagle- Tribune in North Andover and several sister papers north of Boston because of the sluggish economy.

“It’s simply economic conditions,” said Al Getler, publisher of the Eagle-Tribune and several related papers.

In addition to the Eagle-
Tribune, the company publishes the Gloucester Daily Times, the Salem News, The Daily News of Newburyport, and several weeklies in Northeastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.

The papers have a total combined circulation of about 87,000 and 375 employees, Getler said.

Getler said the job cuts will affect a number of different departments at five locations.
