This 1781 historic farmhouse looks like a quintessential New England home: a quaint red house with white windows nestled in among century-old trees. But the inside offers renovated accommodations from 2007, including an updated kitchen, a whirlpool bath, and shiny wide wood floors. The home is known as the “David Lane House,” after a descendant of the town’s founding Colonial family. Hints of bygone times can be seen in the house’s so-called great room, which features wide-planked wood floors and two brick fireplaces, one featuring a hanging cast-iron pot evoking times when dinner was cooked above an open fire.

The great room offers ample space for a living room, parlor and a dining room with built-in cabinets. High ceilings and large windows add to a sense of space. Attached to this room is a bedroom, library, another fireplace and full bath, including the whirlpool tub and shower.

The entrance to the house opens into the renovated kitchen with wood flooring, granite countertops, an electric stove and maple cabinets. There’s a large pantry and a door leading to the backyard, including a brick patio and nearby gazebo. Off the kitchen, there’s a bonus room that can be used as an office or family room.

This room was created as part of an addition and the inside wall still features painted white shingles that were the outside of a once smaller house. The room leads to the two-car garage, which has a large unfinished second floor that could be used for storage or updated into living space.

Stairs from the “great room” lead to three bedrooms, two updated baths as well as ample closet space. Listing Broker Chris Upton is holding an open house Sunday from 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
