Often, candidates take a leave of absence from a firm -- as Mitt Romney did a number of times from Bain Capital. But Gomez, 47, tendered his resignation at Advent, where he had worked since 2004.

A spokesman for Gomez’s campaign, Leonardo Alcivar, said Gomez resigned from the firm “Because he plans to win.”

Advent did not announce Gomez’s departure, but his biography page has been removed from the firm’s web site.
