Gabriel Gomez has resigned from Advent International to pursue his campaign for US Senate, the Boston private equity firm confirmed.
The Cohasset Republican resigned from his position as a principal at the firm on March 2, an Advent spokesman said.
Often, candidates take a leave of absence from a firm -- as Mitt Romney did a number of times from Bain Capital. But Gomez, 47, tendered his resignation at Advent, where he had worked since 2004.
A spokesman for Gomez’s campaign, Leonardo Alcivar, said Gomez resigned from the firm “Because he plans to win.”
Advent did not announce Gomez’s departure, but his biography page has been removed from the firm’s web site. Charles Dohrenwend, the Advent spokesman, said, “We support involvement in areas of social responsibility, including public service. We respect Gabriel Gomez’s personal decision to explore his candidacy to represent Massachusetts in the US Senate.”Beth Healy can be reached at email@example.com.
