Green Mountain Coffee Roasters adds Lipton Tea to its single-serve line-up

Vermont's Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. said that it has reached an agreement that will allow it to offer Lipton Tea in single-serve packs for its Keurig and Vue brewing systems.

Those brewing systems allow users to brew one cup of tea or coffee at a time, and single-serve brewing system have become very popular in recent years.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, which sometimes refers to itself as GMCR, said it made an agreement with Unilever North America, whose brand portfolio includes Lipton Tea, along with others such as Ben & Jerry's, Good Humor, and Hellmann's, among many others.

Lipton will join a roster of teas already available for brewing in GMCR's single-serve Keurig K-Cup and Vue systems. Those other teas include Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, Twinings, and Tazo, as well as Celestial Seasonings Perfect Iced Teas and Snapple iced teas. Lipton will be available for brewing as both a hot and an iced tea.

"We're happy to welcome Lipton – one of the world's great refreshment brands - to our family of Keurig Brewed beverages," GMCR president and chief executive Brian P. Kelley said in a statement. "It's natural to think of Keurig as being synonymous with coffee, and now consumers are also turning to their Keurig brewing systems for the freshest tasting hot and iced tea, prepared simply and quickly at home and in the office. Our strategy to partner with world-class beverage brands like Lipton further broadens the consumer choice in the Keurig system and helps us meet a wide range of consumer taste and beverage preferences."

On the single-serve side, GMCR may be best known for its Keurig system and its K-Cups. GMCR also offers the Vue single-serve brewing system, which allows consumers to customize their cup of coffee or tea. With the Vue, a user can brew a cup that's stronger, bigger, and hotter.

GMCR is headquartered in Waterbury, Vt.
