General Mills makes Cheerios and other brands.

General Mills said its fiscal third-quarter profit rose 2 percent. The Minneapolis-based company, which manufacturers consumer food items, such as Cheerios and Betty Crocker cakes, is benefiting from recent acquisitions. It posted earnings of $398.4 million, or 60 cents per share, compared with $391.5 million, or 58 cents per share, a year earlier. General Mills increased its guidance for fiscal 2013 earnings to a range of $2.66 to $2.68 per share, excluding some items.
