Bedford tech firm bought for $100m

SoundBite Communications Inc., a Bedford technology company, has been acquired by Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories Inc., a Daly City, Calif., company that makes call center software, for approximately $100 million, the companies said Monday.

Genesys is paying $5 a share to buy SoundBite, whose stock closed Monday at $2.99. The company’s market capitalization was $49.3 million.

SoundBite specializes in marketing on mobile phones and in mobile payment technology. It recorded revenue of $48.1 million in 2012 and has more than 450 clients and 140 employees in Bedford.

The deal is the latest in a string of purchases by Genesys, which was bought by Permira, a private equity firm, for $1.5 billion last year.
