Activist says Alere could double stock value

The activist shareholder battling Alere Inc.’s management said investors could more than double the value of the stock if they back a plan for the health diagnostics and services provider to sell noncore assets. Coppersmith Capital Management, with a 7 percent stake, made the claim ahead of the Aug. 7 annual meeting, Reuters reported. Four of the 10 board seats are up for grabs; Coppersmith is challenging the company’s nominees. Alere says it has its own restructuring plan.
