213 King Phillips Path, Duxbury
Square feet: 4,390
When building their home, contractor Bob Shurtleff and his wife, Rhonda, wanted a “wall of glass’’ for the 17-foot-high family room, but weren’t sure how. Shurtleff’s unique solution was to stack rows of horizontal windows over four vertical rectangles of glass and glass doors that lead to the backyard. The family room has a gas fireplace and mantel with built-in cabinets, and is part of an open floor plan that includes a dining area and kitchen. The kitchen has maple cabinets, high-end appliances, and granite counters.
The large master suite is on the first floor, and has a deep closet and a bath with Jacuzzi soaking tub, shower, and double vanity. Off the kitchen is a one-bedroom in-law unit, with its own open floor plan for the kitchen and family room.
Bedrooms on the second floor each have large closets and windows. The final bedroom is located above the garage and reached via an elevated walkway. It is currently being used as an office. Floors throughout the house are oak. The full basement is unfinished. A landscaped front yard keeps the house well back from the road. Across the street is the 344-acre Lansing Bennett Forest, town-owned conservation land.
