State panel on track to complete Partners-South Shore review

The state Health Policy Commission is on track to complete its review of Partners HealthCare System’s proposed acquisition of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth and report to the public by the end of the year, according to a commission staff update.

Under a requirement approved this year, the watchdog panel has 185 days to complete a review. But the deadline doesn’t apply to the Partners-South Shore deal — the only one currently being looked at by the commission — because the review began before a deadline was set.

Nonetheless, the agency wants to move forward deliberately with its work to ease market uncertainty, said commission spokeswoman Kim Haberlin. “We’ve always been mindful of wanting to conduct a thorough review, but a timely review as well,” she said. Haberlin said staffers have received most of the data they requested.
