AS&E gets $6.2m to provide security measures for upcoming summit in the Middle East

American Science and Engineering Inc., a Billerica company specializing in X-ray detection technology, said it has received a $6.2 million order to provide security measures at a “high-profile summit in the Middle East.”

A press release did not provide any details.

AS&E offers X-ray inspection systems designed to combat terrorism, drug smuggling, illegal immigration, and trade fraud.


The $6.2 million order is for a ZBV mobile screening system, a Z Portal cargo and vehicle screening system, and multiple Gemini parcel X-ray inspection systems.

The ZBV and Z Portal systems will be used at perimeter checkpoints to screen vehicles and cargo, and the Gemini systems will be used at interior checkpoints to inspect parcels and baggage, the company said. After the summit, the systems will remain in place.

“We are working closely with our client to provide a full-range of inspection solutions for security at this important Middle East summit,” chief executive Chuck Dougherty said in a statement. 

AS&E customers include the US Department of Defense, US Customs and Border Protection, Abu Dhabi Customs, and NATO.
