Veteran sports reporter Mike Dowling is leaving WCVB-TV Channel 5 on Feb. 21 after 28 years at the station, according to the ABC affiliate.

Dowling joined Channel 5 in 1985 and reported on over 20 championships during his career covering Boston’s professional, collegiate, and high school sports teams, according to the station.

Dowling has received two Edward R. Murrow regional awards, an Emmy, and recognition from the Associated Press and UPI.

“After over 33 years in the business, I want to spend more time with my family, to which I’m looking forward while pursuing some interests that I’ve been thinking about for a while,” Dowling told Channel 5 in an article posted to the outlet’s website.
