Home Depot hiring 1,800 locally

Home Depot Inc. announced it plans to add some 1,800 employees to its stores in the Boston area as part of a nationwide hiring spree as the big box retailer prepares for the busy spring season.

“We are constantly looking for outstanding associates that are interested in providing great customer service year around but in spring we have more customers in our buildings on a daily basis,” said Heather Houle, a district manager at The Home Depot.

Houle said Home Depot has 40 stores within a 60-mile radius of Boston that will be hiring.

Nationwide, the company has set a goal of about 80,000 new hires and is targeting retirees, teenagers, and veterans. Open positions vary by store, and Houle said many seasonal spots become regular part-time jobs.
