Panera Bread Co.’s fourth-quarter profit rose 5 percent to $54.2 million as higher tabs per customer helped same-store sales increase, even though fewer transactions were rung up. The restaurant chain’s revenue increased about 16 percent, year-over-year, to $662 million. Systemwide, net sales increased only 1.1 percent, lower than 4.9 percent in the year-earlier quarter and 1.3 percent in the third quarter.
