Ashling Fingleton, a construction supervisor, and her husband, James Lacey, a contractor, spent last summer overhauling this four-room ranch with an unusual interior. The home’s main room has an open floor plan and a cathedral ceiling 18 feet high at its apex, with exposed beams set against a white ceiling. Adding to the dramatic impact is the large original stone fireplace that dominates one wall in the combined living-dining room. Flooring is original wide pine planks.
The remade kitchen is galley style, U-shaped, and just wide enough for two. It features high-end stainless steel appliances including a gas stove, long granite counters, and white Ikea cabinets above a white tile backsplash.
The one bath has a sink with marble vanity, white marble floor, and a European-style shower door on the showered tub. A new interior wall created two bedrooms of roughly equal size with sufficient closet space and original oak flooring. The basement is unfinished, as is the attic. There is a one-car garage underneath. Most of the three-quarter acre lot is sloping ledge and the property abuts conservation land.
