S&P gives Boston top AAA credit rating

The City of Boston was awarded an AAA credit rating Wednesday by Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, which grades the financial health of municipalities.

Among the 25 largest US cities, Boston is one of six with the top rating. S&P cited the city’s “strong budgetary flexibility and performance’’ and “very strong liquidity’’ as it plans to sell about $158 million of bonds.
