Victorinox Swiss Army, a brand perhaps best known for its pocket-knives, said that it will be the official “timepiece and travel gear brand sponsor” for the Head of the Charles Regatta next month.

Besides its iconic knives, Victorinox Swiss Army has a brand portfolio that includes cutlery, timepieces, travel gear, apparel, and fragrances. (When a wristwach has a suggested price of $500 or more, it is presumably eligible for the loftier title of “timepiece.”)

The Head of the Charles rowing event is scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 18 and 19 on the Charles River. This is the event’s 50th regatta.

As part of its sponsorship, Victorinox Swiss Army said that it will operate two pop-up retail shops at the Weld Exhibition and Rowing & Fitness Expo.

This year’s presenting sponsor is BNY Mellon, a financial services company. According to the event’s website, other current sponsors include the Brooks Brothers clothing brand, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc., and the data storage giant EMC Corp.

In a statement, Victorinox Swiss Army president and chief executive Rene Stutz said: “Victorinox Swiss Army is celebrating two significant milestones during this year’s Regatta. In addition to its 130th anniversary, 2014 also marks 25 years since the first Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece was introduced with the same attention to design and functionality as the Swiss Army Knife, truly a companion for life.”
