Twelve years ago, Granite Telecommunications LLC started out in an office over a Quincy bridal salon. Today, it's a $1 billion, 1,200-employee provider of voice, data, networking, and other communications services. The company said Monday that it has surpassed $1 billion in annualized revenue.

It uses the copper wiring in traditional networks to offer cost-effective services to business customers whose locations span multiple states. Previously, such customers needed to work with multiple service providers. Granite says it can offer one-stop shopping.

To celebrate the $1 billion milestone, Granite will award all employees a $1,000 bonus and raffle another $1 million across its employee base, with more than 100 employees taking home an additional $5,000 to $100,000. It also will donate $1 million to be split among five charitable organizations.
