Boston is the most expensive city in North America based on hotel costs, according to a new survey from CheapHotels.org.
Travelers to Boston in October will pay an average of $214 per night, the survey concluded. By way of comparison, visitors to Chicago can expect to pay $155 per night, and visitors to New York City could pay $154. Chicago was ranked second in the survey, New York third.
To compile its rankings, CheapHotels.org said that it compared data for 30 popular destinations in the US and Canada. October was chosen because many cities reach their highest hotel occupancy rates during that month, CheapHotels.org said. Only hotels located no more than a mile from a city center were considered for the survey. Prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room for October, CheapHotels.org said.
According to the survey, the least expensive October destination will be Montreal. In that city, travelers should be able to find a room for around $50 per night, CheapHotels.org said.
