Harpoon Brewery, a Boston-based beer company founded in 1986 on the Boston waterfront by Dan Kenary and Rich Doyle, said Wednesday that it has promoted Charlie Storey to the post of president.

Storey joined Harpoon in 1996. His previous title was senior vice president of marketing.

In July, Harpoon said it would become an employee-owned company as of Aug. 1, with Doyle handing over the role of chief executive to Kenary.

In his new role as president, Storey will oversee marketing, Harpoon's retail and festival enterprises, and have general management responsibilities for the Harpoon Distributing Co.

"Charlie has worn many hats over his 19 years at the brewery and has always done so with skill, commitment, and passion," Kenary said in a statement. "His dedication to Harpoon is unparalleled, and he will be an excellent leader in his new position."

The company added that it is also promoting Harpoon brand manager Chris Bonacci to the position of assistant vice president of marketing.
