Barbara Anthony, the state’s former top consumer affairs official, has taken a post with the Pioneer Institute, a right-leaning Boston think tank.
In a press release, the group said Anthony would watch the state’s health providers and insurance companies for compliance with transparency laws. Anthony, a registered Democrat, served as the head of the state’s Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation under Deval Patrick, but the Pioneer Institute said they shared “common ground” on the issue of transparency.
“Markets work best when there is information on cost and quality,” said Jim Stergios, Pioneer’s executive director, in a statement. “I look forward to working with Barbara to make sure consumers and employers have the transparency they deserve and need in order to make informed decisions.”
Previously, Anthony had been named a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, and she serves as an adjunct law professor at Suffolk University. The current chief of the consumer affairs office is John Chapman, who was named to the post by Governor Charlie Baker.
