The Martignetti Companies, one of the largest wine and spirits distributors in the United States, is preparing to break ground on a new headquarters in Taunton.

Dean Crandall, the company’s chief financial officer, said the company would start construction of the new 680,000-square-foot headquarters next month in the Myles Standish Industrial Park in Taunton. MassDevelopment, the quasi-public agency that made the sale, said Martignetti paid $11.5 million for the land and would invest $100 million in the site.

“This project is a great example of a successful public-private partnership and economic development at its best,” Taunton Mayor Tom Hoye said in a statement. “We are thrilled Martignetti Companies, a company with such a positive reputation in corporate citizenship, has chosen Taunton for its new home.”

MassDevelopment touted the sale of 115 acres of land as a major development in the industrial park’s expansion over the site of a former state school for people with intellectual disabilities. In 2011, MassDevelopment and a local development corporation formed a non-profit to draw businesses to the 220-acre site, according to the development agency’s website.

Crandall said the new headquarters should be finished in September 2016, and will consolidate two facilities in Norwood and Braintree. By next spring, MassDevelopment said, an access road to the business park will also be completed.
