Health care executive Walter J. Ramos has been named the president of Dorchester's Carney Hospital.
Steward Health Care System said Tuesday that Ramos would take over for Andy Davis, who led the South Dorchester hospital for two years before stepping down in March. Most recently, Ramos was the chief executive of DotHouse Health, a health center in Dorchester.
"Walter Ramos understands Dorchester and the surrounding communities and will bring new energy and vision to this role at Carney Hospital," said Dr. Mark Girard, the president of Steward Hospital Group, in a statement. Other hospital executives and union leaders said they looked forward to working with Ramos, who also has worked for the Massachusetts Hospital Association and Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan.
Ramos will start working at Carney in July. His appointment comes shortly after the hospital opened its new Family Medicine Center, a 26-bed outpatient facility, in April. The 159-bed hospital is also in the midst of a program to improve its emergency department.
