Moving day is here for John Farina.
Farina took over for Barry Nearhos as the head of PricewaterhouseCoopers’s Boston office, the accounting and consulting firm’s second biggest operation in the US, as Nearhos retired several months ago. His promotion came just in time to shepherd some 3,000 employees over the Fort Point Channel.
Construction giant Skanska built a 17-story, 455,000-square-foot office building on Seaport Boulevard with PwC in mind: The professional services firm will occupy 12 of the floors, with some room to expand, and will put its logo atop the building’s exterior. Employees will move from their High Street digs in the Financial District next week.
PwC’s new space is designed to encourage more collaboration, and much of the space will be shared. Many partners, including Farina, will make their offices available to others while they are traveling. “The way we work is so different now,” said Farina.
There are distinctly Boston touches — pictures of city scenes such as Beacon Hill’s Acorn Street and pieces of wood from old Boston Harbor piers adorn the walls — as well as plenty of modern art, said company office services leader Caroline Ceglarski.
But the sweetest amenity may be the outdoor terrace off the fifth floor, overlooking the waterfront.
“The views are art themselves,” Farina said on a tour this week.
