Luxurious open-shower design in Back Bay

eric roth

THE TUB AND SHOWER

Senior architect Barney Maier of Feinmann Inc. , a Lexing-ton firm, designed this Zen-like bathroom in a Back Bay condominium in which an open shower sits alongside the tub. “This affords the owners the opportunity to bathe Japanese style,” in which the tub is used only for soaking, Maier said.

THE SHELVING

Maier designed the clean-lined floating shelves, which Showplace Cabinetry manufactured out of cherry and stained a rich coffee color.

THE TOWEL BARS

A pair of stacked minimalist-style towel bars, Cinu by Ginger in a satin-nickel finish, hang on the white-tiled wall, turning plush towels into an art installation.

THE ACCENT WALL

Recycled-glass mosaic tile with a matte finish by Kamet — in a soothing blend of light green, black, white, and taupe — covers a curved accent wall that runs from the tub and shower portion of the bathroom to the vanity and toilet area.

Matte black-porcelain Ceramica Sant’Agostino Ferro tiles in a large horizontal format —12 by 24 inches — ground the airy space.

THE MAT

A wooden bath mat adds warmth and reinforces the overall spa feel.
