The state has enjoyed a good run of big-name companies expanding or moving here.
There’s Amazon.com’s new warehouse in Fall River and IBM’s Watson Health Division headquarters in Cambridge. Even General Electric Co. is scoping out locations in Boston’s Seaport for a new global headquarters.
In fact, the pace at which prime land and office space in Massachusetts is being gobbled up means that the most recent version ReadyMass100 – the state’s marketing list of properties ready for occupancy or development – is a little short.
The Massachusetts Alliance for Economic Development on Wednesday published their latest inventory online and it only has 79 properties -- well short of the usual 100, as the ReadyMass100 name implies.
“It’s definitely a sign of a strong economy,” said Susan Houston, executive director of the private, non-profit that helps the state promote business opportunities. “Since the beginning of the recovery we’ve seen more absorption.”
The alliance reviews potential sites in the spring and winter each year and vets them to ensure they at a minimum are fully permitted, have utilities available and are close to highways. The list tends to be a resource for site selection companies, Houston said.
The alliance added 10 new properties onto its list Wednesday, including four in Boston and Cambridge.
