Eversource Energy has submitted plans to state regulators that would reduce monthly utility bills for its residential customers by about 6 percent for the summer and fall months, compared with last year.
Eversource, which serves about 300,000 natural gas customers in Massachusetts, said the proposed rate decrease would save customers about $2 a month, or $12 over the six-month period that the new rate would be in effect.
The new monthly total for the average customer would drop to $29.92 from $31.95, from May through October, Eversource said.
Globally, natural prices have plummeted in recent weeks as warmer winter weather has curbed demand for the energy to heat homes.

Bill Akley, the president of gas operations at Eversource said the company is, “pleased that it will remain a competitively priced choice.”
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities will have to approve the new rates.
