After months of uncertainty, Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. employees were notified Friday that they will be moving into a new company headquarters at 125 Binney St. in Cambridge’s Kendall Square in the fourth quarter.
Ariad, a maker of cancer drugs, is now based at 26 Landsdowne St. in the University Park development in Cambridge. It signed a 15-year lease in January 2013 to occupy the two-building Alexandria Center, then under construction at 75 and 125 Binney St.
But after a setback that lowered revenue from its blood cancer drug, Ariad subleased the smaller building, 75 Binney St., to IBM Watson Health. And a “strategic review” launched in March examined, among other things, whether it still made sense for Ariad to move to the new site.
The move later this year will affect all of the company’s 300 US employees, except the sales force in the field, but it’s “highly likely” Ariad will also sublease some of its space at 125 Binney St., said spokeswoman Liza Heapes.Robert Weisman can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
